Washington Commanders starting quarterback Jayden Daniels has struggled with injuries throughout the majority of his 2025 sophomore campaign.
The 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year missed two consecutive games earlier in the season and will now officially sit out of his third game of the season on Monday night, when Washington travels to Missouri to take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
Daniels injured his hamstring in the third quarter of the Commanders' 44-22 Week 7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, causing second-string quarterback Marcus Mariota to step back onto the field, something he has become accustomed to this season. Mariota is now set to start his third game of the season.
As Daniels' understudy, Mariota has led Washington to a 1-1 record in his two starts this season, including a Week 3 blowout win at home against the Las Vegas Raiders, and a loss on the road to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4.
The veteran backup quarterback, and former Heisman Trophy winner has thrown for 363 passing yards and three touchdowns in his two starts this season, and averaged a quarterback rating of 66.0.
While Daniels is not expected to miss much time with his hamstring strain, his absence on Monday night will add to the challenge of trying to knock off the 2024 AFC Champions.
