Good news coming out of Tampa Bay yesterday after Baker Mayfield received word from his MRI that he did not have any structural damage or a fracture in his left shoulder per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The MRI revealed that Mayfield suffered a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder in Sunday’s 34-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Sofi Stadium.

Mayfield suffered the injury during the Buccaneers only scoring drive of the game, late in the second quarter. Mayfield threw a touchdown pass to rookie wide out Tez Johnson but immediately went to the medical tent and was listed as questionable to return. Mayfield returned to finish the first half, but seemed to aggravate the injury more on the final play of the first half on a “hail mary” attempt from the Tampa Bay 37-yard line that fell very short of the endzone with five seconds left in the half.

Following the halftime break, Mayfield was seen on the sideline in a sling and did not return for the rest of the game. Teddy Bridgewater came in to replace Mayfield, and the Buccaneers could not find any traction in the second half.

Mayfield has started 45 consecutive regular season games for the Buccaneers and has never missed a start while being their starting quarterback. The last time Mayfield missed a start was in 2022 when he was with the Carolina Panthers.
