Texans' MNF preview

Baker Mayfield’s ability to make plays from behind is well known, and the Houston Texans will try to build a big enough lead Monday night to keep him from doing it again.

Texans' MNF preview:

This is the second time in three seasons the Texans face Mayfield, who last week connected with rookie Emeka Egbuka in the final minute to beat the Atlanta Falcons and has previously led late-game comebacks in Houston.

Mayfield has flourished in Tampa Bay, guiding the Buccaneers to back-to-back NFC South titles while quietly becoming one of the league’s most consistent passers. He’s posted consecutive 4,000-yard seasons with 69 combined passing touchdowns, plus over 400 rushing yards and four rushing scores, proving he can hurt defenses both through the air and on the ground.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans knows slowing Mayfield requires discipline and teamwork. “He scrambles to make plays, run and pass. We have to play together, stay after the rush, and cover our guys twice,” Ryans said. Houston will need that focus when the Buccaneers arrive at NRG Stadium for Monday Night Football.

Kickoff: Monday, September 15 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7:00 p.m. ET on ABC/ESPN)
