Top 5 Biggest Pro Bowl Snubs

Another year and another Pro Bowl, as with every Pro Bowl, some people maybe deserved to make it and didn't, while others made it even though they were less deserving. Here are my five biggest Pro Bowl snubs from this NFL season.

    Kirby Joseph

The Lions did well in the Pro Bowl voting, with seven players on the team being voted in, but one key defensive piece was left out of the roster. Lions safety Kirby Joseph, who leads the NFL in interceptions with nine, was left off the team as he was not one of the three defensive safeties picked for the NFC. Even though Joseph finished first in fan voting at the free safety position, is third on the team in tackles with 76, and is tied for the NFL lead in pass deflections, he was still not selected. Fellow teammate Brian Branch finished second in the strong safety voting and got a bid for the Pro Bowl. After not getting the bid, Joseph tweeted a confused reaction with no words needed to add context. It's disappointing to see Joseph not get a bid, but the expectations in Detroit are much more than a Pro Bowl appearance.

    Christian Gonzalez

The Patriots have had another down year as the team sits at 3-13, but one of their few bright spots has been second-year corner from Oregon Christian Gonzalez. Gonzalez, who was injured most of his rookie year, has been an incredible weapon on the defensive side of the ball for the Patriots. Gonzalez, 22, has been one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL this season, as he always guards the WR1 on every opposing team. This year, Gonzalez racked up 59 total tackles, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, and 11 passes defended. He even found his way into the endzone this year. After not receiving the bid despite the impressive season, Gonzalez went to social media to express his opinion. It is disappointing not to see one of the game's youngest defensive stars in this year's Pro Bowl, but the future is bright for him and some of the Patriot's young prospects.

    Baker Mayfield

The Buccaneers have had an up-and-down year with injuries and their record overall, but one of the constants has been the passing success of Baker Mayfield. He has powered their offense to the best record in the NFC South and has found a way to produce even though he lost star receiver Chris Godwin in Week seven and another star receiver, Mike Evans, for a bit during the season. Through 16 games this season, Mayfield ranks third in passing yards with 4,279, is tied for second in touchdown passes with 39, and is tied for second in completion percentage at 71.7%. Mayfield has blown away expectations in Tampa throughout the past two years, and the Bucs have really found a gem after a rough start to Mayfield's career. Mayfield should be the first replacement if an NFC quarterback drops out or cannot go to the Pro Bowl.

    Danielle Hunter

The Texans struggle to get pass rushers into the Pro Bowl, and this year is no different. Last year, Jonathan Greenard was snubbed from the Pro Bowl, moved to the Vikings, and has now made it, but this season was the opposite for Hunter. Hunter made the Pro Bowl last season with the Vikings but didn't make the mark this year with the Texans, which makes no sense as Hunter is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. Hunter leads the NFL in QB pressures with 90 and is ahead of the number two guy Trey Hendrickson by five pressures. Hunter also is tied for the league lead in pressure rate with Micah Parsons at 19.3%. Finally, Hunter has 12 sacks on the season, which is only two behind the co-leaders Myles Garrett and Trey Hendrickson. It's unbelievable that Hunter was left off the roster and should be an immediate replacement player if anyone chooses or cannot go.

    Brain Thomas Jr.

The Jaguars have had a forgettable season. Still, the prominent bright spot for this team has been rookie wide receiver Brain Thomas Jr. Thomas, who was drafted 23rd overall in the 2024 NFL draft, has been a fantastic offensive weapon for this Jaguars team despite the 4-12 record. Thomas is currently fifth in receiving yards with 1,179 and is tied for fifth in touchdowns with ten on the season. Thomas putting up these numbers despite the inconsistent quarterback play in Jacksonville shows that the Jaguars have a clear-cut WR1 for their team. Thomas has more yards on the season than the rest of his receiving teammates combined, although that includes Christian Kirk, who played only eight games before being out due to an injury. Maybe it was the rookie bias or the fact that Thomas has been under the radar/overlooked this whole season but shouldn't be ignored much longer.
