The Panthers finally have a reason to smile. After a rough 0-2 start, Carolina dominated the Falcons in a 30-0 shutout — their first shutout since 2020 — and picked up a much-needed confidence boost heading into a winnable stretch of games.
Top two takeaways from a Panthers' 30-0 shutout win over the Falcons:
Ejiro Evero’s defense set the tone
This was the performance Panthers fans have been waiting for from defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero. Carolina dialed up exotic pressures, tackled well in space, and completely smothered Atlanta’s passing game.
Michael Penix Jr. finished just 18-of-36 for 172 yards with two interceptions, including a pick-six by Chau Smith-Wade. The defense also forced two turnovers on downs and ended the game with a fumble recovery from safeties Lathan Ransom and Demani Richardson.
Even more impressive — they did it without starters Tershawn Wharton and Pat Jones II. If this is the baseline going forward, Carolina’s defense could be a problem for the rest of the NFC South.
Rookie Tetairoa McMillan continues to shine
Tetairoa McMillan is quickly becoming Bryce Young’s favorite target, and Sunday was another step in his development. The rookie wideout led the team with 48 receiving yards on three catches, showing off strong hands and an ability to work the middle of the field.
There were a few rookie moments — a couple of drops and struggles at the top of routes — but this was still a “welcome to the NFL” type of game. If McMillan keeps building chemistry with Young, Carolina’s passing game could find a new gear over the next month.
