Top two takeaways from Bears’ 52-21 loss to Lions

The Chicago Bears suffered a humbling 52-21 defeat to the Detroit Lions, marking their second straight loss in the NFC North and leaving the team 0-2 in the division.

Despite being competitive at halftime, the Bears’ defense collapsed in the second half, allowing Detroit to score 31 unanswered points and putting the team in a deep hole early in the season.

Top two takeaways from Bears’ 52-21 loss to Lions:

Caleb Williams shows flashes but lacks protection

Quarterback Caleb Williams put up modest numbers, completing 19 of 30 passes for 207 yards with two touchdowns to Rome Odunze and one interception.

He also added 27 yards on the ground. While Williams showed some promise, his performance was hindered by a struggling offensive line. Tackles Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright allowed multiple sacks and failed to provide consistent protection, limiting the offense’s ability to sustain drives.

Defense completely overwhelmed

Chicago’s defense was unable to slow Detroit at any point.

Jared Goff carved up the secondary, completing 23 of 28 passes for 334 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. The Lions also rushed for 177 yards and two scores between Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. The Bears generated little to no pressure on Goff, leaving their secondary exposed and contributing to one of the most lopsided losses in the early stages of the season.
