The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a 0-2 start after a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, their second straight defeat to open the 2025 season. Patrick Mahomes once again tried to put the team on his back, but offensive miscues and a quiet pass rush proved costly.
Top two takeaways from Chiefs' 20-17 loss to Eagles:
1. Mahomes Can’t Do It All
Patrick Mahomes led the team in both passing (187 yards, 1 TD) and rushing (66 yards, 1 TD), but it wasn’t enough. A critical drop by Travis Kelce turned into an interception, costing Kansas City a potential touchdown and valuable momentum. The run game outside of Mahomes struggled again, with Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco combining for just 53 yards on 18 carries. Without more balance and help from his receivers, Mahomes is being asked to do too much.
2. Pass Rush Still Missing in Action
Kansas City’s defense did little to disrupt Jalen Hurts, registering just one sack — courtesy of rookie Omarr Norman-Lott, his first in the NFL. Chris Jones didn’t record a tackle until the fourth quarter, and the lack of consistent pressure allowed Philadelphia to control the tempo. If the Chiefs want to turn their season around, their star-studded front has to start affecting games.
