Top two takeaways from Falcons’ 22-6 victory over Vikings

The Atlanta Falcons put together a complete defensive performance in Week 2, dominating the line of scrimmage and forcing key turnovers. Atlanta’s rookie class played a starring role, while the pass rush overwhelmed Minnesota’s offense and kept the game under control from start to finish.

Top two takeaways from Falcons’ 22-6 victory over Vikings:

1. Rookie class shows out

Atlanta’s 2025 draft class made a massive impact on Sunday night. First-round edge rushers Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. each recorded sacks, with Pearce also teaming up with Brandon Dorlus for another.

Rookie safety Billy Bowman Jr. grabbed his first career interception — and nearly a second — before Xavier Watts sealed the win with a late pick. It was the kind of game that shows why Atlanta’s draft class could be the foundation of its future success.

2. Defensive front dominates

The Falcons’ defense sacked J.J. McCarthy six times, with five coming in the first half alone. Brandon Dorlus and Zach Harrison each had 1.5 sacks, while Leonard Floyd and Ruke Orhorhoro chipped in as well.

Minnesota’s offensive line had no answers for Atlanta’s relentless front seven, and the pressure helped the secondary capitalize with two interceptions. After being outmuscled in the opener, this was precisely the kind of physical, tone-setting performance the Falcons needed.
