The Jacksonville Jaguars fell short against the Cincinnati Bengals in Ohio, losing their first game of the season, and were unable to contain a Joe Burrow-less offense.
Top two takeaways from Jaguars’ 31-27 loss to Bengals:
Bhayshul Tuten has an impressive showing
Tuten, the Jaguars’ rookie fourth-round draft pick, had an impressive showing in his second career NFL game.
Tuten didn't see much action in Jacksonville’s Week 1 victory over the Carolina Panthers, but after running back Tank Bigsby was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles early in the week, there was an opportunity for someone to step up and fill the Jaguars’ RB2 role.
The rookie running back recorded eight carries for 42 yards on the ground, while picking up two receptions for 32 yards receiving, including an eight-yard catch resulting in his first career touchdown.
He recorded 183 carries for 1,159 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground in his senior year with the Hokies, setting career-highs in touchdowns and rushing yards.
Despite the loss, Tuten's performance was promising.
Travis Hunter plays both ways.
After an injury to starting corner back Jarrian Jones in the first quarter, Jacksonville Jaguars’ rookie No. 2 overall selection in 2025, picked up the slack on the defensive end of the field.
He played 41 defensive snaps on defense and went 0-for-1 when targeted by forcing a pass breakup, and tallied two tackles, but other than that, he was quiet in his second showing at cornerback, after picking up a tackle in Week 1.
He was penalized twice, including a 25-yard enforced defensive pass interference with less than two minutes in the fourth quarter, which led to the Bengals’ game-winning touchdown.
On offense, Hunter was targeted six times, resulting in three catches for 22 yards, averaging 7.3 yards per catch.
