The New Orleans Saints are still searching for their first win of the season, and the first win of Spencer Rattler’s career, after falling to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Despite Rattler’s best outing yet, the losing streak hit eight games and the pressure is mounting in New Orleans.
Top two takeaways from Saints' 26-21 loss to 49ers:
Spencer Rattler Shows Progress, but Still Winless
Rattler put together his best game yet, going 25-of-34 for 207 yards and three touchdowns, marking his first career multi-TD outing. Despite his efficiency, he’s now 0-8 as a starter, the longest winless start for any quarterback in Saints history. His growth is evident, but New Orleans needs him to turn strong individual performances into victories soon.
If Rattler’s losing streak hits double digits, the front office could be forced to consider alternatives like Tyler Shough. The upcoming matchup with Seattle might be Rattler’s best chance yet to finally get into the win column and quiet the noise.
Carl Granderson shines in loss
Saints defensive end Carl Granderson had a standout game against the 49ers' offensive line.
He racked up seven tackles, five solo, three tackles for loss and two sacks. He led the team in sacks, tackles for loss, and quarterback hits (3). He has 13 tackles and 3.5 sacks on the season, averaging nearly two sacks a game through two weeks.
