Jaguars vs. Jets Dec. 14

Trevor Lawrence delivered the most dominant performance of his career, showcasing the full range of his talent as the Jacksonville Jaguars dismantled the New York Jets 48-20 on Sunday.

Lawrence accounted for six total touchdowns, a career-high five through the air and one on the ground, as the Jaguars cruised to their fifth straight victory. Jacksonville improved to 10-4 and reached double-digit wins for just the second time in the past 18 seasons.

Lawrence completed 20 of 32 passes for 330 yards without a turnover for the third consecutive game. His passer rating of 136.7 was the best of his five-year NFL career. He also added 51 rushing yards, including a 15-yard touchdown scramble on the opening drive that set the tone for a lopsided afternoon.

Jacksonville scored touchdowns on its first three possessions for the first time since 1998 and topped 40 points through three quarters for the first time since 2005. The outcome was largely decided early, as the Jaguars jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the Jets recorded a first down.

Travis Etienne was a major beneficiary of Lawrence’s precision, catching three touchdown passes. His longest came on a 45-yard screen in which he weaved through defenders and finished the play with a flip into the end zone. Jacksonville’s offense overwhelmed a Jets defense that surrendered its most points since 2021.

The Jets fell to 3-11 and endured a difficult afternoon on both sides of the ball. Rookie quarterback Brady Cook, the first undrafted rookie to start for New York since 1973, completed 22 of 33 passes for 176 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. His lone scoring pass was a 9-yard throw to Adonai Mitchell in the first quarter. Mitchell finished with seven catches for 69 yards.

New York’s offense struggled to stay on schedule, and Breece Hall was bottled up by the league’s top-ranked rushing defense, managing just 23 yards on 12 carries.

The Jets’ frustration boiled over in the second half when defensive lineman Khalen Saunders was ejected for making contact with an official following an extra point.

Jacksonville never slowed, controlling the game from start to finish and continuing its surge toward the postseason behind its franchise quarterback.

Injuries

Jets: S Tony Adams (groin), S Isaiah Oliver (knee) and DL Eric Watts (concussion) were ruled out.

Jaguars: RB Bhayshul Tuten exited with a finger injury. DE Danny Striggow left with an ankle injury and did not return. QB Trevor Lawrence injured his right index finger in the first half but continued without issue.
