Injury Round Up

Eagles vs. Chargers

The Philadelphia Eagles travel to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers in what could be a defining matchup for both teams’ playoff positioning. With Philadelphia dealing with key injuries and Los Angeles trying to protect home-field advantage, this game could come down to turnovers, pass-rush effectiveness, and which team executes in critical moments.

Eagles

Philadelphia will enter Monday night without Jalen Carter, who had surgery on both shoulders, and right tackle Lane Johnson, out for his third straight game. The defensive front has struggled to contain the run, allowing Chicago to post two 100-yard rushers in a single game for the first time since 1985.

DT Moro Ojomo is expected to take on a larger role, providing 28 tackles, four sacks, four tackles for loss, and eight quarterback hits this season, including key plays like stopping a Packers’ fourth-down run in November.

On offense, QB Jalen Hurts and OC Kevin Patullo are under pressure to regain the efficiency that led the Eagles to last season’s Super Bowl, with Hurts averaging 62.4 fewer yards per game and 4.7 fewer points compared to 2024. RB Saquon Barkley has one 100-yard game this season and only two touchdowns in his past seven contests, while WRs A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are behind career averages, and TE Dallas Goedert has gone four weeks without a touchdown after a career-high seven.

The Eagles will need their line to hold up against the Chargers’ pass rush and establish the run if they hope to regain momentum.

Chargers

Los Angeles has had to adapt quickly following Herbert’s hand injury, playing three quarters against the Raiders with a cast and protective glove and relying on shotgun and pistol formations. Despite the setback, the Chargers’ offensive line showed signs of stability after a week off, with Joe Alt lost for the season, Jamaree Salyer permanently moving to left tackle, and the line producing 192 rushing yards and two touchdowns against Las Vegas.

Backup Trey Lance is ready in case under-center plays are required, but the plan is for Herbert to start. The Chargers’ balanced attack, led by Herbert’s experience and OLB Tuli Tuipulotu’s pass-rushing presence, will test the Eagles’ defensive front, which has struggled in recent games. Los Angeles has benefited from the improved health and cohesion of its line, giving them confidence in both the passing and running games. HC Jim Harbaugh praised his players’ resilience and ability to perform at a high level despite injuries, noting that the offensive line has “found some consistency” heading into a crucial stretch of the season.

Best bets

  1. Eagles moneyline (-130)

- While the Eagles have been struggling the past two games they are still a solid football team that I think will right the ship against the Chargers on the road on Monday night. Jalen Hurts will find the endzone on a tush-push like he does almost every game while Saquon Barkley will need to have a big game due to how good the Chargers secondary is. Hurts will need to air it out in this game but I am worried that he will struggle against a Chargers pass defense that has been elite this season. The biggest reason I feel the Eagles win this game is due to Justin Herbert having surgery earlier this week on his non-throwing hand. He is slated to play on Monday and regardless I do not love that Herbert just had plates and screws put into his hand six days before playing the reigning Super Bowl Champions in a primetime game.

  1. Jalen Hurts anytime touchdown (+105)

- Hurts did not get into the endzone last week on Black Friday which makes me feel like he is due to find the box at least once but maybe twice as this is the recipe for the Eagles success on offense. Everyone and their mother knows what the Eagles do in short yardage and I think Hurts will find pay dirt one way or the other in a primetime game that the Eagles need to win in order to gain some momentum heading into the playoffs. The odds aren’t the best but doubling your money is always fun and I bet Hurts cashes this bet in the first half.

Injury Report

Eagles

This week’s Banged Up Score (BUS): 83.4

Last 4 weeks’ BUS:

Week 11: 87.4

Week 12: 87.1

Week 13: 86.0

The Eagles are in pretty good shape health-wise, but will be going into the Monday Night Football matchup missing some key pieces on both sides of the ball. Philadelphia is known for the strength of their offensive line, but they will again be without LT Lane Johnson who is dealing with a LIsfranc sprain in his foot. A Lisfranc injury affects the midfoot and usually happens when someone lands hard on their toes and the foot twists as they land. This type of injury would make it nearly impossible for Johnson to drive hard off that foot, making him ineffective blocking. On the defensive side, DT Jalen Carter has been ruled out and S Marcus Epps (shoulder) is questionable. Carter played last week against Chicago but seemed to get pushed around a bit by the Chicago run game, which is out of the ordinary for him. Sources released that he underwent procedures to treat both his shoulders on Monday, making him unavailable for this week.

Chargers

This week’s Banged Up Score (BUS): 80.8

Last 4 weeks’ BUS:

Week 11: 77.0

Week 12: BYE

Week 13: 79.1

The headliner for the Chargers’ weekly injury report is that starting QB Justing Herbert remains questionable as he recovers from the surgery on his hand on Monday after fracturing the hand last week. If he’s unable to play, backup Trey Lance will fill in. Rookie RB Omarion Hampton has been on IR since week 5 with an ankle fracture, but has been activated and could possibly make his return this week, along with RB Hassan Haskins who is also eligible to return from IR but listed as questionable. Following in the same trend, starting DT Otito Ogbonnia is also eligible to return from IR this week. Ogbonnia has been out since sustaining an elbow injury against the Colts on October 19th. Ogbonnia is known for his strength against the run game, which could be a major factor as the Chargers face the Eagles and Saquon Barkley.
