As NFL free agency continues to heat up into the spring and summer, some notable wide receivers have found new homes in the past two days with one staying with the franchise that he won a Super Bowl with in 2020. Seahawks star D.K. Metcalf inked a massive deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Joshua Palmer signed with the Buffalo Bills and longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Chris Godwin extended his time in Florida for another three seasons. All three of these deals were first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

D.K. Metcalf signed a five-year, $150 million deal with Pittsburgh after the Seahawks traded him to the Steel City for a 2025 second-round pick. Metcalf was entering the final year of his $72 million extension that he signed with Seattle in 2022, where he had $18 million remaining in that contract. This trade now sees Seattle with five picks in the first three rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft while giving up their clear cut WR1. In his time in a Seahawks uniform, Metcalf tallied 6,324 receiving yards, 48 touchdowns, averaging 5.7 yards per catch. In his final season in Seattle, Metcalf hauled in 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns. Looking at his time in Seattle, the Ole Miss alum averaged 1,054 receiving yards and eight touchdowns per season averaging 14.4 yards per catch. Metcalf now joins a player with a similar physical play style in George Pickens, who are now both waiting to see who will be throwing them the ball in 2025.

Joshua Palmer has signed a three-year, $36 million deal with the Buffalo Bills. Palmer joins a Bills team that is coming off their first AFC Championship appearance since 2020 but are looking to improve their wide receiver room, thus bringing in Palmer who is entering year five in the NFL. In his time with the Los Angeles Chargers, Palmer caught 182 passes for 2,387 yards for ten touchdowns. In 2024 after parting ways with Mike Williams and Keenan Allen, many Chargers fans thought Palmer would take a big leap and cement himself as the Chargers WR1. Palmer did just the opposite, hauling in 39 catches for 584 yards and a lone touchdown. With Josh Allen throwing Palmer the ball in 2025, Bills fans should be hopeful that their MVP quarterback can “unlock” the fifth-year player, but only time will tell if Palmer is worth the money or just another ride in the carousel that has been the Bills wide receiver room.
The second-biggest wide receiver signing behind Metcalf to the Steelers is Chris Godwin choosing to stay with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a three-year extension for $66 million, with $44 million guaranteed. The maximum value of this deal is $72 million with incentives but only two out of the three years are guaranteed to Godwin. Godwin was having what fellow Buccaneers wide out Mike Evans called an “All-Pro” season fell by the wayside after Godwin dislocated his ankle in Week 7 vs the Ravens, which required surgery. In his time in Tampa Bay, Godwin has hauled in 579 catches, 7,266 yards, and 39 touchdowns. In 2024, Godwin before getting injured had 50 catches for 576 yards and five touchdowns. While Godwin reportedly turned down an extra $20 million by not joining the New England Patriots, it is clear Godwin believes the Buccaneers are much closer to contending for a title than the Patriots. Look for Godwin to bounce back to his regular productive self, as long as his ankle is healthy and Baker Mayfield continues to be the gunslinger he has proven to be the last two seasons in Florida.
