Arthur Smith is returning to the college ranks.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator is expected to be named the next offensive coordinator at Ohio State, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Saturday.
Smith spent the past two seasons as Mike Tomlin’s offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh, following a three-year tenure as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
He had also been in demand in the NFL coaching carousel this year, interviewing for head coaching positions with the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans, as well as offensive coordinator roles with the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers.
Instead, Smith is set to join one of college football’s top programs. Ohio State captured the College Football Playoff National Championship last year and reached the quarterfinals this past season.
