Cardinals Jonathan Gannon

The Arizona Cardinals have fired head coach Jonathan Gannon after three seasons at the helm, NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported Monday. The team later confirmed the move.

Gannon’s dismissal follows a 37-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the regular-season finale, the ninth straight defeat for the Cardinals as they finished 3-14 in 2025.

General manager Monti Ossenfort will remain with the franchise and will be involved in the search for Arizona’s next head coach, according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

Over three seasons, Gannon compiled a 15-36 record and never led the Cardinals to higher than a third-place finish in the NFC West, which came in 2024 after an 8-9 campaign.

Sunday’s loss marked Arizona’s fourth game since December in which the team allowed at least 37 points, a stark contrast to earlier in the year when the Cardinals lost seven games by four points or fewer and eight overall by a single possession. A 20-17 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13 officially eliminated the team from postseason contention.

One of the low points of Gannon’s tenure came in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans. Arizona held a 21-6 lead in the fourth quarter before a series of mistakes, including running back Emari Demercado fumbling near the goal line, allowed the previously winless Titans to complete a comeback. In the aftermath, Gannon confronted Demercado, yelling and making contact with the player. He later apologized and was fined $100,000 by the team.
