Quarterback Gardner Minshew has found a new team, agreeing to a one-year, $8.25 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Minshew, 29, spent the 2025 season with the Kansas City Chiefs as the primary backup to Patrick Mahomes. He appeared in four games and made one start late in the season against the Tennessee Titans after Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee.

That start was short-lived, however. Minshew exited after just three plays following a scramble when he suffered a left knee injury. The noncontact injury was later diagnosed as a bone bruise, which sidelined him for the remainder of the season but did not require surgery.

Originally selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 178th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Minshew has built a journeyman career that has now included five teams. His best season came in 2023 with the Indianapolis Colts, when he earned a Pro Bowl selection after throwing for a career-high 3,305 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Over seven NFL seasons, Minshew has passed for 11,987 yards with 68 touchdowns and 35 interceptions. In Arizona, he provides the Cardinals with an experienced veteran option at quarterback as he continues his NFL career.
