The Washington Commanders have locked up one of their most important offensive linemen, signing left tackle Laremy Tunsil to a two-year, $60.2 million extension, according to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe. The deal includes $52.65 million fully guaranteed.
With an average annual value of $30.1 million, the extension makes Tunsil the highest-paid offensive tackle in the league. The previous mark was held by Rashawn Slater of the Los Angeles Chargers at $28.5 million per season.
Tunsil entered the offseason with one year remaining on his contract, and Commanders general manager Adam Peters said in February that the team was “very motivated” to reach a long-term agreement. The extension now secures the veteran tackle’s place on Washington’s offensive line moving forward.
The 31-year-old joined Washington last offseason in a trade with the Houston Texans and quickly became a key piece of the offense. He started the team’s first 14 games in 2025 before an oblique injury sidelined him for the final three contests of the season.
Although Tunsil did not earn a Pro Bowl selection in 2025, it was the first time since 2021 that he missed the honor. During his time in Houston, he made three consecutive Pro Bowls and has earned five total selections during his 10-year career.
Originally drafted in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins, Tunsil has established himself as one of the league’s premier left tackles and remains a cornerstone of Washington’s offensive line plans.
