The Dallas Goedert era in Philadelphia continues. The Philadelphia Eagles and the veteran tight end have agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal, according to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. Goedert, who was set to hit free agency once his contract voided at the start of the league year, had twice agreed to push back the void date—first to Friday and then to Monday—giving both sides extra time to negotiate before other teams could make a move. Several teams reportedly expressed interest in signing Goedert, but he chose to remain with Philadelphia, helping the Eagles avoid a $20 million dead-money hit on the salary cap.

Part of the negotiation complexity stemmed from the team’s need to simultaneously manage the future of wide receiver A.J. Brown, whose $23.4 million cap hit for 2026 and trade speculation had created additional uncertainty. Brown’s status remains fluid following Goedert’s re-signing.

A second-round pick in 2018, Goedert has been a cornerstone of the Eagles’ offense, recording 409 receptions for 4,676 yards and 35 touchdowns over eight seasons. He played a key role in Philadelphia’s Super Bowl run during the 2024 season, totaling 17 catches for 215 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs. While the 31-year-old’s production has slowed slightly overall, he remains essential, finishing third on the team last season with 60 receptions and 11 touchdowns—a career high. Alongside Brown and DeVonta Smith, Goedert accounted for nearly 68% of Philadelphia’s completions.

By re-signing Goedert for a ninth season, the Eagles maintain a vital piece of their offense and provide quarterback Jalen Hurts with a trusted target, even as the team continues to evaluate Brown’s future and potential cap implications in the months ahead.
