Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins has agreed to a modified contract that adjusts his four-year, $180 million deal from 2024, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports. The restructure gives Atlanta more salary-cap flexibility and could make Cousins a free agent by March 13.
Cousins just finished his second season in Atlanta where he threw for 1,721 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions in 10 games, and led the Falcons on a four-game winning streak to end the season. He completed his 14th season in the league, after spending six seasons with the Washington Commanders, and another six years with the Minnesota Vikings.
While Cousins had two more years remaining on his contract, his restructuring allows him to possibly pursue opportunities elsewhere, while also consider retirement. If he choses not to return to Atlanta, Penix would return to the full-time starter, barring any injuries.
