Injury Round Up

Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence broke a franchise record, claimed a division title and guided the Jacksonville Jaguars into the postseason in emphatic fashion Sunday.

Lawrence threw three touchdown passes to become the Jaguars’ single-season leader in total touchdowns, and Jacksonville routed the Tennessee Titans 41–7 to capture the AFC South crown and earn a home playoff game. The victory was the most lopsided in series history and capped a dominant late-season run for the Jaguars.

Jacksonville (13–4) secured its third division title in nine years, swept Tennessee (3–14) for the third time in four seasons and reached 13 wins for just the second time in franchise history. The Jaguars later learned they will be the AFC’s No. 3 seed and host Buffalo in next weekend’s wild-card round.

Lawrence was sharp after a slow opening drive, completing 22 of 30 passes for 255 yards with touchdown throws to Brenton Strange, Parker Washington and Quintin Morris. He dissected a depleted Titans secondary and spent much of the fourth quarter on the sideline as the game turned into a blowout.

The Jaguars extended their winning streak to eight games and have now won nine of their past 10. Lawrence closed the regular season with 38 total touchdowns, 29 passing and nine rushing, surpassing Blake Bortles’ previous team record of 37 set in 2015. He also moved into second place on Jacksonville’s all-time passing yardage list, trailing only Mark Brunell.

Tennessee’s day unraveled early. Rookie quarterback Cam Ward was injured on the opening drive after scrambling for a 7-yard touchdown and landing awkwardly on his right shoulder. Ward did not return, and backup Brandon Allen struggled in relief, completing 17 of 30 passes for 72 yards and throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Antonio Johnson.

Johnson’s 58-yard pick-six highlighted a Jaguars defense that forced turnovers throughout the afternoon. Jacksonville finished the regular season with 22 interceptions, setting a new franchise record.

The Jaguars also received another memorable moment from kicker Cam Little, who drilled a 67-yard field goal to end the first half. It gave Little the two longest field goals in NFL history in the same season, after his 68-yard make earlier this year.

For Tennessee, the loss closed a difficult season and marked the end of interim coach Mike McCoy’s tenure, as the Titans now turn their attention to a full coaching search and the continued development of Ward.

Injuries

Titans: G Kevin Zeitler (quadriceps) and G Corey Levin (biceps) were ruled out.

Jaguars: LT Cole Van Lanen injured his right knee in the fourth quarter. CB Greg Newsome II (shoulder) and WR Brian Thomas Jr. (concussion evaluation) briefly exited but returned.

Up next

Titans: Begin the offseason and continue their search for a new head coach.

Jaguars: Host the Buffalo Bills next weekend in the AFC wild-card round at EverBank Stadium.
