San Francisco 49ers defensive end Keion White was shot in the ankle Monday morning in San Francisco and is currently undergoing surgery, the team confirmed. According to a statement from the 49ers, White “was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco. He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate.”

The San Francisco Police Department reported that White’s injuries are not life-threatening. Officers responded just after 4 a.m. PT to a business on the 1700 block of Mission Street, where a verbal altercation had occurred between two groups before shots were fired by an unknown suspect. White received immediate aid at the scene and requested paramedics before being transported to a local hospital. No arrests have been made, and the SFPD’s Strategic Investigation Unit is handling the ongoing investigation.

White, 27, was traded to the 49ers from the New England Patriots during the 2025 season. A 2023 second-round draft pick of the Patriots, he played 14 games last year, recording 18 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and six quarterback hits. With San Francisco in 2025, he appeared in nine games, tallying 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

The incident marks another high-profile shooting involving a 49ers player. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in August 2024 during an attempted robbery at Union Square in San Francisco.
