The Detroit Lions have parted ways with offensive coordinator John Morton, the team announced Tuesday.
Morton helped lead Detroit's offense to a 9-8 record - an offense that scored the third most passing touchdowns in the league (35) and recorded the fifth most rushing touchdowns (21) in 2025. However, the Lions finished third in the NFC North, and were eliminated from the playoffs after a Week 17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
The 56-year-old served just one season as Detroit's offensive coordinator before being let go. He spent the preview two seasons (2023-24) with the Denver Broncos as their pass game coordinator, before returning to Detroit - the same city he was a senior offensive assistant in 2022.
Funny enough, the last time Detroit missed the playoffs was in 2022. After Morton departed to Denver, the Lions made the 2023 NFC Championship game, and reached the 2025 divisional round.
Detroit will now begin its coordinator search, that has a vast array of candidates including Washington Commanders former offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury.
