The Green Bay Packers will move forward with a new voice on special teams in 2026 after assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia announced he is stepping down. The 65-year-old departs after four seasons in Green Bay, a tenure that began with optimism but ends following a turbulent year for the club’s kicking units.

In a statement released by the team, Bisaccia said he made the decision after taking time to reflect, thanking head coach Matt LaFleur and the organization’s leadership for their support. LaFleur, in turn, praised Bisaccia’s impact on the locker room and coaching staff, calling him a valuable resource and an important presence in the building.

Bisaccia arrived in Green Bay in 2022 with a strong reputation, bolstered by his time with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he served as interim head coach in 2021. However, the Packers’ special teams units struggled for much of his tenure, and 2025 proved particularly costly. A Week 3 loss to the Cleveland Browns turned on a blocked go-ahead field goal, while a game against the Dallas Cowboys featured a surrendered extra-point return. Later in the season, miscues loomed large in two losses to the rival Chicago Bears, including a botched onside kick recovery in overtime and missed kicks during a wild-card defeat.

Statistically, the Packers finished last in the NFL in punt return average (5.6 yards) and ranked 20th in annual special teams evaluations, with punter Daniel Whelan’s league-leading 51.7 yards per punt standing out as one of the few bright spots. The season concluded amid a five-game losing streak, with special teams breakdowns frequently playing pivotal roles.

Bisaccia’s departure adds another coordinator vacancy for LaFleur to fill, especially after defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley left to become head coach of the Miami Dolphins. As Green Bay reshapes its staff, stabilizing the kicking game will be a priority for a team aiming to rebound from a frustrating 2025 campaign.
