The Dallas Cowboys are bolstering their pass rush by acquiring Rashan Gary from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Monday.

Gary, 28, was the No. 12 overall pick in 2019 and spent seven seasons in Green Bay, generating 46.5 sacks and earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2024. However, his production dipped in 2025, recording 7.5 sacks—all before Week 9—and often being invisible in games, prompting the Packers to move on. The trade saves Green Bay $10.98 million in salary cap space while leaving $17 million in dead money.

The move reunites Gary with Christian Parker, Dallas’ new defensive coordinator, who was on the Packers staff during Gary’s first two seasons, and with defensive tackle Kenny Clark in Dallas. Gary fills a significant gap left by Jadeveon Clowney and Dante Fowler, providing both pass-rush and run-stopping ability for a revamped Cowboys defense.

For Dallas, the trade is a low-risk, high-reward addition. Taking on Gary’s contract is manageable, and for the cost of a Day 3 draft pick in 2027, the Cowboys address a glaring defensive need. With more work likely ahead to improve the overall defense, this trade is the first step in shoring up multiple weak spots.
