A lawsuit filed this week in Dallas County alleges that Rashee Rice physically assaulted his former girlfriend multiple times over the course of their year-and-a-half relationship, causing injuries that included bruising, swelling and bleeding.
The civil suit, filed Monday by Dacoda Jones, seeks more than $1 million in damages and follows a series of domestic violence allegations she posted on social media last month. According to the complaint, the incidents occurred at residences in Dallas and in suburban Kansas City. Jones alleges that Rice’s behavior escalated over time, including an incident in December 2023 in which she says he strangled her. The lawsuit claims the alleged abuse continued through July 2025.
In the filing, Jones accuses Rice of grabbing, choking, pushing, scratching, hitting and headbutting her, as well as striking her with objects and damaging property during altercations. The suit also states that several of the alleged incidents occurred while she was pregnant with one of their two children. Her attorney did not immediately respond to questions about whether police were contacted regarding the allegations.
Representatives for Rice did not respond to requests for comment. The Kansas City Chiefs said they are aware of the lawsuit and remain in contact with the NFL. The league stated that the matter is under review.
Rice previously served a six-game suspension last season stemming from his involvement in a high-speed crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason. He later pleaded guilty to third-degree felony charges related to the incident and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years’ probation. On the field, Rice recorded 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as Kansas City finished 6-11, missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
