In Baltimore, a familiar voice is returning to lead the defense. The Ravens are set to hire Anthony Weaver as their next defensive coordinator, reuniting the franchise with a coach whose roots run deep inside the organization.
Weaver, 45, knows the Ravens well. He spent four seasons in Baltimore as a player and later added three more as an assistant coach, helping shape defenses built on physicality and discipline. After leaving the organization, Weaver spent the past two seasons as the Miami Dolphins’ defensive coordinator, earning league-wide respect for his work and even drawing interest for head coaching opportunities, including an interview for Baltimore’s top job earlier this offseason.
Now, Weaver returns to a different Ravens team under new head coach Jesse Minter. While the two have never worked directly together, their paths have crossed often. Both were part of John Harbaugh’s staff in Baltimore, though at different times. Minter served as a defensive assistant from 2017 to 2020 before departing for Michigan to work under Jim Harbaugh, a move that eventually led him to the Chargers and, ultimately, back to Baltimore as the franchise’s new head coach.
For the Ravens, Weaver’s hiring represents both continuity and evolution. His familiarity with the organization’s defensive DNA pairs with experience gained elsewhere, offering Minter a seasoned coordinator capable of maintaining Baltimore’s defensive identity while adapting it for a new era.
After time away and a brief flirtation with the head coaching ranks, Weaver’s return feels less like a reunion tour and more like a natural next step—one that brings a trusted Ravens voice back home to help shape the future of the defense.
