The Seattle Seahawks didn’t look far to find their next offensive coordinator — they looked inside the division.
Seattle is hiring Brian Fleury away from the San Francisco 49ers, plucking the tight ends coach and run game coordinator from an NFC West rival to replace Klint Kubiak, who departed to become head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. While the Seahawks evaluated internal options, Fleury ultimately emerged as the choice to guide an offense that just powered a championship run.
Fleury arrives in Seattle after seven seasons in San Francisco, where he steadily climbed the coaching ladder. He began as a defensive quality control assistant in 2019, transitioned to offense for two seasons, then took over as tight ends coach from 2022 through 2024 before adding run game coordinator duties in 2025. His résumé also includes time with the Miami Dolphins in research and analytics roles, along with earlier stops coaching for the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills.
The hire could pay immediate dividends for Seattle’s young tight ends. Second-round pick Elijah Arroyo flashed potential as a rookie, and A.J. Barner emerged as a reliable target, finishing second on the team in receptions and receiving touchdowns. Fleury’s recent experience developing that position group in San Francisco may be central to their continued growth.
The ground game, meanwhile, remains a pivotal storyline. Zach Charbonnet is recovering from a torn ACL, and Kenneth Walker III enters free agency after a prolific postseason that culminated in a Super Bowl MVP performance. Maintaining balance will be critical after Seattle’s offense finished third in scoring in 2025 — its highest ranking in two decades.
Head coach Mike Macdonald built his reputation on defense, but the Seahawks’ title defense may hinge on whether Fleury can preserve the rhythm and explosiveness that carried them to a Lombardi Trophy. Quarterback Sam Darnold silenced critics with his championship run, and expectations in Seattle have only grown louder. Now it’s Fleury’s turn to keep the engine running.
