Mike McCarthy has wasted little time assembling his defensive leadership in Pittsburgh, hiring Patrick Graham as the Steelers’ new defensive coordinator. The team confirmed the move Friday following a report from NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero.
Graham, 47, brings extensive experience as a coordinator, having spent the last four seasons as the Las Vegas Raiders’ defensive coordinator. He previously held the same role with the New York Giants from 2020-21 and the Miami Dolphins in 2019, building a reputation for versatile, aggressive defensive schemes.
The hire also reunites Graham with McCarthy, who worked with him in Green Bay in 2018 when Graham served as linebackers coach and defensive run game coordinator. Pittsburgh is counting on Graham’s experience and familiarity with McCarthy’s system to quickly stabilize and energize the defense under the new regime.
