Offensive tackle Trent Brown and the Houston Texans have agreed to a one-year contract extension worth up to $7 million, Brown’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday.

The deal comes as Houston reshapes its offensive line following a pair of trades involving starting linemen. The Texans have agreed to send right tackle Tytus Howard to the Cleveland Browns and are also trading Juice Scruggs to the Detroit Lions as part of the deal that brings running back David Montgomery to Houston. Both trades will become official when the new NFL league year begins next Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Brown, who stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 380 pounds, served primarily as a spot starter for Houston last season but became an effective contributor after returning from a knee injury in Week 10. He went on to start seven games and, between Weeks 10 and 16, allowed the sixth-lowest pressure rate (7.1%) among right tackles with at least 200 pass-blocking snaps, according to Next Gen Stats.

Originally selected in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, the 32-year-old has appeared in 110 games with 103 starts over 11 seasons. Brown also earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2019 while playing for the Las Vegas Raiders.
