Memphis has broken multiple long-standing NBA records this season, but not for things that make Grizzlies fans happy.
The Grizzlies have played 31 different players this season, which records the most players to play on a team in a single season in NBA history. This has been due to Memphis's numerous injuries throughout the season. Through 75 games, the Grizzlies have suffered 481 injuries, which breaks the NBA record the 2002-2003 Toronto Raptors held with 480 injuries in 85 games.
Star guard Ja Morant played only nine games with the Grizzlies this season, missing the first 25 due to suspension and tearing his shoulder on Jan. 9, 2024, to miss the remainder of the regular season. Morants averaged 25.1 points and 8.1 assists in his nine games played.
With the 15-man NBA roster, Memphis has played all 75 games with an average of 6.5 injured players a game. Even with playing 8-9 players a game, the Grizzlies hold the No. 13 seed in the East, two seeds away from last place, leading the Portland Trail Blazers by six games and the San Antonio Spurs by seven.
As of April 2, Memphis holds the lowest BUS ranking at 32.5, 10.9 points behind the next closest team, the Toronto Raptors. Currently, only one team in the NBA is 100% healthy, and that is the No. 1 seed in the West, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Memphis’ season is over, with seven more games to play. Grizzlies fans hope the off-season will be good for recovery for their entire team.
