Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving and Boston Celtics forward-center Kristaps Porzingis have been named NBA Players of the Week for Week 24
Representing the West, Kyrie Irving averaged 31.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and three assists in four games, leading the Mavericks to a 3-1 record, including a key OT victory over the Houston Rockets to eliminate them from postseason contention. Irving scored 48 points Sunday night against Houston, capturing his 14th career game with 45+ points, doing so for the first time since January 20, 2023, when Irving dropped 48 against the Utah Jazz while playing for Brooklyn.
Irving and the Mavericks currently hold the No. 5 seed in the West, just two games back from the No. 4 seeded Clippers. With four games remaining for Dallas in the NBA regular season, Irving and the Mavericks look to overcome the No. 4-seeded Clippers, and their journey continues April 9 at 7 p.m. when they take on the Charlotte Hornets in North Carolina.
In the East, Kristaps Porzingis took the Celtics undefeated through four games, averaging 19.8 points, ten rebounds, and three blocks a game. Porzingis’ best game of the week came against the No. 3 seed in the West, the Oklahoma City Thunder, when he recorded 27 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks to defeat the Thunder 135-100.
With Porzingis's help, the Celtics have clinched the best record in the NBA, currently sitting at 62-16, and have secured home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. The Celtics take on the No. 2 seed in the West, the Milwaukee Bucks, at 7:30 p.m. on April 9.
This is the first time either player has been named NBA Player of the Week.
