    Lions Injuries

The Detroit Lions had multiple young and promising players injured at Monday’s practice. Their rookie duo of potentially starting cornerbacks, and star running back Jahmyr Gibbs were all injured.

    Rookie Help

Terrion Arnold, the Lions’ first-round pick out of Alabama suffered an “upper-body injury”, while their second-round pick Ennis Rakestraw Jr. exited training with an ankle injury. Both do not yet have a timetable for their return.

Both of these rookies were supposed to help bolster a subpar Lions secondary from last year, and Detroit is hoping they will be back soon. The team is already short on corners as Emmanuel Moseley suffered a torn pectoral and is out indefinitely.

    Gibbs Status

The biggest news out of the Lions training today was the injury of Gibbs, who was a Pro Bowl running back last season.

Originally, the Lions stated that he was being evaluated for a “leg injury”, but it has since been released he suffered a hamstring injury. Like their duo of rookie corners, there is currently no timetable for Gibbs’ return.

Gibbs split the backfield with David Montgomery last season, but was able to lead all rookies in rushing touchdowns with 10. He also rushed for 945 yards and added an additional 316 receiving yards.

    Conclusion

The Lions are once again expected to be in the race for the NFC Championship, but if they lose any of these players for a prolonged amount of time, their chances will take a serious hit. The Lions will continue to evaluate their injuries and hope that none have to sit out for an extended period of time.
