Jalen Ramsey gets a Record Breaking Extension

In the same week, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniels gets an extension, and star DB Jalen Ramsey joins the party by getting one of his own. Earlier today, the cornerstone defensive back signed a three-year, $72.3 million extension with the Dolphins. The average of $24.1 million a year puts Ramsey on top of the DB position, passing fellow DB Patrick Surtain II, who is making $24 million a year.

Ramsey joined the Dolphins last season, playing 10 out of the team's 17 games while dealing with various injuries throughout the season. But despite the injuries, his production is top-tier when Ramsey is on the field. With three interceptions, five pass break-ups, and a sub 53% pass rating when throwing Ramsey's direction, it is clear to see the impact he has on the defensive side of the football, helping the Dolphins reach the AFC Wild Card game last season.

Ramsey has been a top-tier DB in the NFL throughout his eight-year career, tallying 22 interceptions, six forced fumbles, and 97 pass deflections. Despite making his name as a lockdown corner and covering one side of the field, it looks like Ramesy might get moved around a little bit more this season. First-year defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver called Ramsey " the ultimate chess piece."

Ramsey is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has been dealing with a hamstring injury that has kept him off the field throughout the week so far. However, Ramsey was a limited participant in practice today, so the 29-year-old All-Pro might be able to go for Sunday's game. Even if the star DB doesn't play this week, his impact on this Dolphins defense will be felt throughout the season.
